Women, Infants and Children programs provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women and to infants and children who are found to be at nutritional risk. It offers the following:
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, infants and children eat well and stay healthy.
WIC provides nutrition education, nutritious foods, breastfeeding support and health care referrals for income-eligible women who are pregnant or postpartum, infants and children up to age 5. The program is nationally recognized for improving access to nutritious foods, promoting healthier eating habits and lifestyle choices.
The WIC clinic also offers comprehensive breastfeeding assistance to new moms. Including online breastfeeding counseling for current SJC WIC clients. With Beacon Connected Care, you can see a lactation consultant face-to-face for help on common breastfeeding concerns, including: latching, breast pain due to feeding issues, questions about milk supply, pumping or going back to work or school, and other issues. Talk to your peer counselor for more information and to receive your service key to access the online counseling. Counselors are available Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (by appointment or on demand).
